After more than two decades as an acclaimed singer and songwriter, Allison Moorer has found her true voice thanks to “Blood.”
On Friday, Allison Moorer stopped at Jammin’ Java in Vienna to promote "Blood," her remarkable new book and CD that tell the story of the 1986 murder-suicide of her parents following years of domestic violence.
With Melissa Block of National Public Radio serving as the moderator at this tour stop, Moorer described her lifelong struggle to find forgiveness and understanding. The hybrid format — stories interspersed with song, followed at the end with a short solo acoustic set — brought the audience vividly into the world of Moorer and her older sister, Grammy-award winning songwriter Shelby Lynne.
Both have addressed their parents’ deaths in song at times over the past two decades; hearing the music with selections from the book immersed the audience in their world for a short time. It is an amazing, vividly told tale of trauma, grieving and resilience.
These photos were shot for Americana Highways, where they will be published next week with a review written by Steve Wosahla. For more about Moorer, visit her website at http://allisonmoorer.com.
